This week we have turned our attention to the marine environment, undertaking repeat surveys to characterise species and habitats within the vicinity of Hengistbury Head Long Groyne, located just south of Christchurch Harbour on the Dorset coast.

Surveys included drop-down camera deployment to characterise habitat, and sediment grabs to assess the benthic invertebrate community.

The surveys, commissioned by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, are associated with planned construction and improvement works to the groyne and any potential impacts this may have in the immediate surrounding area.

A Van Veen grab sampler was used to collect sediment samples for taxonomic analysis of the benthic invertebrate community
